Ocean Galleries hosted an exceptional two-artist show featuring nature artists
Brian O’Neill and Hamilton Aguiar. The artists were both be on hand during
special meet-and-greet wine and cheese receptions to talk with art lovers
about their respective, unique styles of art.
O’Neill is renowned for his paintings of flowers, and Aguiar is celebrated
for his paintings of trees. Both artists approach and interpret their
paintings with fresh eyes and a rare perspective.
“My paintings are very reminiscent of the old Masters,” says O’Neill. “Using
multiple, translucent layers, they create a mood, a romance and a little
darkness.”
The Brazilian-born Aguiar applies silver and copper leaf over the entire
background of his linen canvases, then creates washes and shadows with oil
paints, radiating a dramatic light due to the juxtaposition of the richness
of the oil and mercurial nature of the metals.
