Always
interested in all forms of creative artwork, Doris started painting
seriously after attending a watercolor workshop while vacationing in Stone
Harbor, New Jersey in 1978. This workshop sparked her interest in the
watercolor medium and led to many more workshop trips with instruction by
well-known artists in which she was able to explore the many faces of
watercolor. She was attracted especially to watercolor because of its
luminous quality and versatility. After retiring as a teacher she has
devoted much of her time to painting and developing a series of limited
edition prints of Avalon and Stone Harbor, New Jersey, where Doris and her
husband have a home. Doris loves the sea and finds that watercolor lends
itself well to depicting the ever-changing atmospheric conditions found at
the shore. Her love for the area can be seen in her paintings. In addition
to her prints she has created note cards and Christmas cards from her
paintings.
