Barbara Ostrander, a professional artist and teacher in a variety of art media, attended Skidmore College and is a graduate of the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She received the Whitney Publication Award for her outstanding artistic ability. Ostrander has been actively involved with the Oreland Art Center as President, Vice President, and recently, Exhibition Chairman. For many years, she has designed, manufactured, and taught stained glass, and after a successful career with this medium, she turned her creative talents to watercolor.
Ostrander's subject matter is varied, often inspired by her traveling experiences. Her paintings are rich in color, bold in design, and strong in values. She is a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and has been a consistent award winner in the Member and Open Juried shows of the Oreland Art Centers since 1982. She has received several awards in the Avalon, NJ Art Show, including the centennial celebration award, and one of her paintings has been selected for the permanent collection of the Avalon Borough Hall. In addition, she was awarded the first prize for excellence in watercolor at the Ocean City, NJ boardwalk show in 2000. One of her paintings, "Summer in the City", was selected for the New Jersey Cape Tourist poster for the year 2001.
